Turn organic waste into energy !
What is Methanization?
Methanization is the process of organic matter digestion by microorganisms in an oxygen-free environment. This biological degradation produces two valuable outputs :
- A moisture-rich, organic substance called digestate
- Biogas, a water-saturated gas mixture primarily composed of 50-70% methane (CH4) and 20-50% CO2
This biogas can be converted through combustion into heat and electricity, or refined into biofuel.
Understanding Micro-Methanization
While conventional methanization serves agricultural and industrial operations managing substantial quantities of bio-waste and producing up to 2,200 Nm³/h of methane, micro-methanization operates at a reduced scale. This approach allows for the treatment of up to 10,000 tons of waste annually, yielding 20 Nm³/h of methane.
Micro-methanization requires less space and is designed for small agricultural enterprises, municipal authorities, and food processing businesses. It enables waste processing closer to production sites, enhancing the environmental profile of methanization. Currently, bio-waste travels an average of 31 to 111 kilometers between its source and processing facilities—micro-methanization significantly reduces this transportation footprint.
Our solution
The BioCapsule® processes up to 600 tons of bio-waste yearly within just 80 m², utilizing methanization principles. Why is the BioCapsule® a great solution ?
- It reduces greenhouse gas emissions from waste transportation
- It enables direct energy utilization by the waste producers themselves
- It creates a closed-loop system that transforms waste into energy and organic fertilizers
